This interview is important (at least to me). It represents everything wrong with legacy media, but more specifically, why Colbert is a disingenuous, nasty guy.
He invited Eastwood on the show under the false pretense of discussing Clint's new movie. He then proceeded to attack the 94-year-old icon for his conservative political beliefs. Stephan has every right to disagree with conservatives, but to accuse Eastwood on the air of being a vicious manipulative sycophant who "supports politicians that attack the vulnerable"..." using your influence to prop up systems that hurt families while you live in your Hollywood mansion". "It looks like you've spent years pushing harmful political agendas". It got worse from there.
Throughout the ambush, Clint remained dignified and refused to retaliate and denigrate Colbert's beliefs.
Colbert is a liberal version of Joe McCarthy. Anyone who doesn't agree with his liberal views is evil? And apparently divisive?
I contrast that to Bill Maher who, while a longtime liberal, is willing to engage in honest, respectful debate with those who don't agree with him.
Watch Bill Maher and Ben Shapiro go at it. They are radically different in their beliefs, but both agree that speaking with each other is essential. The interview is fascinating as is the fact that they obviously respect each other, while not agreeing.
