I'm shocked. Chicago is fricken Shangri La! Other than Beruit, I can't think of a safer place to live and the winters are wonderful. What an amazing value.

Housing prices are down 1.7% year over year, according to new real estate data from Redfin/MLS.

Axios, Chicago.

Why it matters: Any relief from sky-high home prices is welcome, especially as mortgage rates creep up.

By the numbers: Chicago's median home sales price was $285,o00 in January.

Zoom out: Nationally, median home sales prices have crept up 1.3% from one year ago, to $359,000, and sales fell for the 12th month in a row, according to the latest from the National Association of Realtors.
