Snitz dives into affirmative action. Oh, no the pool is empty?

Whatever you may think about the recent Supremes decision, the following short video discussion puts this issue in a smart context.

A little Snitz intro: In 2013, Malcolm Gladwell, in his book David and Goliath, used an example of a white college student at Brown University to illustrate the elite school paradox. Essentially, numerous studies show that students at the lower 20% percentile of Ivy League schools have worse statistical outcomes than students at slightly lower-ranked schools where they are in the middle of their peer class.

Ergo, better not to feel like you can't keep up.

Economist, Jason Riley, explains that Affirmative Action, whether or not you feel it's justified or not, is an ineffective system to help minorities since it places them in situations where they are doomed to fail (same issue). This is demonstrated by graduation rates and other measures of outcomes.

He argues that investing money in Inner City Charter Schools produces far better statistical outcomes and prepares minorities to succeed.

Snitz prospective: Black students admitted at the Ivy's had, on average a 310 lower SAT score than whites. Would minorities have had better outcomes with smaller bumps (50-100 points), ergo had an increasing op to attend strong schools where their statistical chances of success were greater? Yup.
