The United States is one of the world's great immigration success stories. We are a melting pot where multiple ethnicities have assimilated into our economy and contributed mightily to our GDP and culture.
How did this happen? Between 1892 and 1924 more than 12 million folks mostly from Europe (Russia, Italy, Ireland, Germany, Poland...) gained entry to the States. Did they sneak across the border or wait years for hearings to gain access to becoming an American citizen?
No, almost all entered legally through Ellis Island and went through a screening process taking between 3-7 hours. This included a medical inspection and questioning about their background, job prospects and financial status.
Only about 2-3% of applicants were denied entry. Of course during this time, as today the US had a labor shortage and was in need of able-bodied workers.
Compare this to the over 14 million people who've snuck in during the 4 short years of Biden's administration. The problem isn't that we don't need immigrants...rather we tried to do too much too fast and failed miserably as a result. Our current screening process...in practical terms...non existent.
