Ok, you’ve heard all the crap. We pay more than any country on earth and have lousy health outcomes. We rank 66th in the world. Check out these charts. I’m going to throw up.

So what’s up? Two things Holmes!
1. We’re fat f-cks and
2. We get boned by health insurance companies.
You can thank your federal government for both.
Back in the 1960s, Americans ate reasonably well and only 10% of us were obese. Then big agri hired a bunch of corrupt scientists to tell the American public to embrace a new “food pyramid”. The Federales jumped on board…telling Americans it was ok to eat a ton of simple carbs and processed food. Today, almost one in every two Americans is classified as Obese. Oh yah, about 80% of all healthcare costs are to treat chronic disease. The driver of that? You guessed it, obesity, which is in turn driven by sugar and simple carb intake.
BTW media pundits often claim poor Americans can't afford to eat healthy food. Really? Most Asians aren't fat and exist on a diet based on rice and veggies. Dirt cheap. BTW, only 6% of Japanese are obese. Shocking they have lower healthcare costs!
Then there’s Obamacare. In the short 40 months following the adoption of this stupid program, the average American’s insurance bill doubled (see table below). Ironic, the program provided about 5% of the US population’s health insurance and doubled the cost for everybody else. Mission accomplished. Who made all the money? The insurance industry and benefit managers. You BTW got screwed.
In the past two decades, the rates of abortions dropped almost in half. Smoking has dropped by 70% and drinking by about 13%. Ergo public campaigns to encourage health behaviors can work. Will the same be true for improving our diet? I sure hope so. It’s the best chance we have to reduce healthcare costs?
By comparison, trying to force Americans to comply with lifestyle regulations is seldom effective. During prohibition, alcohol consumption actually went up!
