If you look at the track record of armed conflicts they fall into three categories: I. Outside invaders, II. Civil Wars & III. Terrorism.

The first two put up the big numbers. Vietnam, Syria, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Congo, Sudan, etc. Each of these conflicts killed over a million people. In contrast, for each of the past 10 years, global terrorism has killed about 25,000 people yearly. Sad but insignificant in the big picture of “death by fighting”.

Israel’s current situation is considerably better than at the time of the Six-Day War(1967). Back then each of its Arab neighbors mounted massive mechanized armies to invade and destroy the Jews. Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq & Lebanon launched a coordinated attack deploying almost 500,000 troops. The Jews fought back with half the manpower, 35% of the aircraft and tanks.

Today all of Israel’s neighbors (Sunni Arabs) view Israel as a partner to contain their Shiite nemesis Iran. Israel has largely won! Trump was on the cusp of memorializing this with the Abraham Accords.

Is everything perfect? No! Every year a few thousand Jews perish at the hands of jihadists; Hezbollah in the West Bank* and recently Gaza(which had been quiet). Sadly, that’s the cost of living in a place where you live with or next door to 5 million Palestinians some small minority of which are jihadists. If you want to live there, you need to face this reality or move elsewhere. No matter who’s running the Palestinian Authority there are going to be casualties.

Blowing up Gaza will not make that go away. It will make it worse.

*Israel’s insistence to keep shoveling settlers into the West Bank is a stupid recipe for disaster. They need to keep their eye on the ball (Iran) & take whatever measures necessary to keep nuclear weapons out of their hands.
