Snitz “shitting on the Oscars”
At age ten my folks took me to watch In the Heat of the Night, which won the Academy Award Best Picture (1967). It’s a gritty tale of homicide and racial prejudice set in the deep South. For many decades Hollywood turned out spectacular thought-provoking films. Best winners included Patton, the Godfather, Platoon & Unforgiven to name a few.
The common denominator; “the human experience”. Real people, emotions, situations, history and thought-provoking problems.
Now Hollywood has pivoted to pumping out fantasy (far more lucrative at the box office); The Marvel Comic Universe being the largest cinematic cash cow in history. This year’s narrative was Barbenheimer.
The Oscars featured the Year of the Women as depicted by Barbie (whose two theatrical dance numbers dominated the telecast) and Poor Things, Emma Stone’s triumphant Best Actress vehicle that scored several more Oscars.
How are women depicted in these two films? Barbie is a cartoon character in a universe of shallow intellectually retarded laughable males. Stone’s character Belle is a violent, ultra pornographic depiction of a women searching for meaning, again in a sea of misogynist men. By pornographic I mean…just that. The year’s “best” female performance was punctuated by Emma getting boned by ten different guys in a variety of graphic gymnastic positions butt-naked. I suppose you might call this a cross between Caligula, Disney and Deep Throat, all in the name of depicting women’s journey to self awareness?
Think I’m kidding. Watch for yourself! (see link)
This is a modern-day version of The Emperor’s New Clothes and ample evidence that Hollywood & the Academy has lost its f-cking mind along with anyone else who buys into this crap.
BTW, while I’m shitting on the movie industry let’s talk Oppenheimer. The movie is a cinematic masterpiece which I thoroughly enjoyed. One problem; it’s promoted as a docu-drama depicting a genius being unfairly maligned as a communist. In reality, Oppenheimer’s wife, numerous mistresses and entire circle of friends were communists (as was he). It’s likely he shared nuclear secrets with the Russians. Truman was absolutely correct to consider him a security threat. In fact, no rational human being would provide this dude security clearance after WWII. His contributions to the war effort were massive, but done in the name of Mother Russia (our ally at the time) in addition to the US.
Again, Hollywood’s version of reality resides on some other planet.
The problem here isn’t just Hollywood. Back in the 1950s and 60s Network News was a non-profit sector where folks like Edward Murrow and Walter Cronkite gave the public unbiased informative content. Then “news” became a form of entertainment, the objective being “clicks” and “engagement”. The distinction between Hollywood entertainment and news entertainment narrows every year. If you think the reality that Hollywood pumps out is “messed up” look no further than the various news channels. Most are decidedly progressive/woke nonsense excepting the equally hyperbolic conservative cesspools like Fox, Breitbart or worse.
Yes folks, I’m the little boy yelling “Hey daddy, the emperor isn’t wearing any clothes”…haha.
