Israel Strikes Iran State Media Buildings in Tehran

President Trump calls for evacuation of Iranian capital

Israel struck buildings belonging to an Iranian state-owned media company in Tehran during what appeared to be a live broadcast, after the Israeli military said residents and workers in that part of the capital should leave. Israel earlier said it killed four senior Iranian intelligence officials in a strike on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ headquarters.

President Trump is leaving the G-7 summit early to deal with the crisis; it comes after he took to social media to say everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran.

The attacks came as Iran signaled through Arab intermediaries that it is seeking an end to the hostilities and a resumption of talks over its nuclear program, prompting a rally in U.S. stocks and a pullback in oil prices. Israel’s dayslong assault on Iran’s nuclear program, senior leadership and infrastructure has left Tehran battered and given Israel air superiority over parts of the country.

Trump urged Iran to return to talks over its nuclear program to end its conflict with Israel. “They should talk and they should talk immediately before it’s too late,” Trump said at a G-7 summit in Canada. Trump earlier nixed Israel’s plan to kill Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to a U.S. official.
