The best video I've seen on how the food pyramid shaped obesity and is much worse than COVID.

snitzoid

Dr. Peter Attia interviewed by Peterson, makes some great points, among them:

Back in 1992, the USDA created the food pyramid. Sparing you any nefarious conspiracy theories (although there are several actors who didn't play nice), here's how it came to be:

Large percentages of the population were undernourished. The USDA was looking to provide nutrition that was inexpensive to produce, non-perishable, portable/easily transported, and delicious. Simple carbohydrates fit that bill perfectly, especially processed food.

Of course, it's widely accepted that the driver of chronic disease, which accounts for approx 70% of US medical expenditure, is sugar (ergo bad diet).

So from an economic point of view, the health costs of eating a toxic diet, began to add up to many times the cost savings of producing cheap food.

Another interesting clinical finding. Our native brain is designed to direct the bod to acquire nutrients for a hyperactive hunter-gatherer who had a very limited food supply. Not exactly the coach potato of today.

Most modern humans haven't the self-regulation to ingest a limited supply of simple sugars and turn off the tap. Once the brain's desire center for sugars is turned on, most can turn it off. That's why most people who start the typical American sh-t diet end up programmed to make themself sick.
