Ok, these two short videos in some sense present different views of the world. I love Kite and Key Media (first vid) but they're admitted right-leaning...formed by alums of the Manhattan Institute.
Assuming they're 100% right (I don't believe that) they suggest that after the US spends more money than all other nations on Earth combined, our armed forces suck and are ill-equipped. Sounds like the $1 trillion we spend a year is a giant rip-off.
Of course, we stick our nose where it doesn't belong repeatedly. Zeihan, who is more balanced and frankly monster-smart...paints a slightly different picture of Taiwan and China (the subject of the first video).
Snitz's take: I don't mind "speaking softly and carrying a big stick". If I'm going to pay for the big stick, I want a big stick. Not to get ripped off by a bunch of unscrupulous defense contractors. Two, walking softly means avoiding stupid wars you can't win. We are pretty lousy at that. We have not been walking softly. We're a bull in a China shop.
