29% of Americans want Biden to run again. Wow, Debbie Downer.

Listen, I'm about to turn 65 years young...and I'm razor sharp. I imagine in about 14 years when I'm Joe's age I'll be ready to run for...not President stupid...I want to be a dictator someplace. For the time being I'm ripening. On second thought, maybe I should lead a military coup someplace?

Only 29% Want Biden to Run Again in 2024

Rasmussen Poll

By an overwhelming margin, voters don’t want President Joe Biden to seek reelection, and they’re not excited about two possible alternatives in 2024, either.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 59% of Likely U.S. voters believe Biden should not run for reelection in 2024, while only 29% think Biden should seek a second term in the White House. Another 12% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Vice President Kamala Harris recently told reporters, “The president intends to run [in 2024] and if he does, I will be his ticket-mate. We will run together.” If Biden decides against running in 2024, however, only 29% of voters think Harris should run for president, while 56% say Harris shouldn’t run and 15% are undecided.

If most voters are against either Biden or Harris running in 2024, does that leave the door open for a return of former President Donald Trump? Just 37% of voters believe Trump should run for president in 2024, while 54% say Trump shouldn’t run again.

The survey of 1,000 U.S. Likely Voters was conducted on June 30, 2022 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Less than half (48%) of Democrats believe Biden should run for reelection, while 33% don’t and 19% are undecided. Eighty-two percent (82%) of Republicans think Biden shouldn’t run again in 2024, an opinion shared by 62% of voters not affiliated with either major party.

If Biden doesn’t run in 2024, 50% of Democrats believe Harris should run, but only 12% of Republicans and 23% of unaffiliated voters think Harris should run for president in 2024. Eighty-one percent (81%) of Republicans and 58% of unaffiliated voters say Harris shouldn’t run in 2024, a belief shared by 32% of Democrats.

While 60% of Republicans think Trump should run for president again in 2024, only 18% of Democrats and 34% of unaffiliated voters agree. Seventy-eight percent (78%) of Democrats, 30% of Republicans and 54% of unaffiliated voters don’t believe Trump should run again in 2024.

Majorities of every racial category – 60% of whites, 52% of Black voters and 59% of other minorities — say Biden should not seek reelection in 2024. Similarly, 52% of whites, 63% of Black voters and 57% of other minorities believe Trump should not run for president again in 2024.

While 61% of whites and 51% of other minorities don’t think Harris should run for president in 2024, Black voters are divided, with 47% favoring a Harris presidential run in 2024 and 42% against it.

Fewer women voters (26%) than men (32%) believe Biden should seek reelection in 2024, while more men (43%) than women voters (32%) think Trump should run for president again.

Voters under 40 are more likely than their elders to say Harris should run for president in 2024 if Biden doesn’t seek reelection.

Voters with annual incomes between $30,000 and $50,000 are most supportive of Trump running again in 2024, while those with incomes above $200,000 a year are most opposed to Trump seeking the White House again.

While 40% of government employees think Biden should seek reelection in 2024, only 28% of private sector workers agree.

The 2022 midterm elections are now barely four months away, and Republicans have a five-point lead in their bid to recapture control of Congress.

Most voters expect crime to be an important issue in the midterm elections, and President Joe Biden’s approval on the issue has declined.
