Looks like requiring an ID to vote enjoys broad support nationally and perhaps others in the Dem party will starting supporting such?

Says Gemini: Jamel Holley, a New Jersey Democratic politician who represented the 20th Legislative District in the General Assembly, has expressed support for stricter voter verification and election integrity measures that distinguish him from the mainstream Democratic consensus.Support for Federal Proof-of-Citizenship Rules: Holley voiced support for federal legislation known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, calling on Congress to pass the measure.

The bill mandates documentary proof of U.S. citizenship (such as a passport or birth certificate) when registering to vote in federal elections. Pause on Motor Vehicle Voter Registration: Although Holley originally co-sponsored legislation establishing automated voter registration procedures through the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) system, he called for an immediate pause on that program. He urged that the registration pathway remain paused until stronger identity safeguards and verification measures are implemented within the agency.

He's smart to move in this direction:

Pew Research Center: Across major national surveys tracking public opinion on voting policies, approximately 83% to 84% of U.S. adults overall favor requiring all voters to show government-issued photo identification. Pew's demographic breakdowns consistently show: White adults: Roughly 84% to 85% support photo ID requirements.Black adults: Over 70% (ranging between 70% and 75% across recent survey waves) favor requiring photo ID.Hispanic/Latino adults: Between 78% and 83% favor photo ID rules. Asian American adults: Over 70% support requiring photo identification.
