Can we compete with China in EV cars?

In case your unfamiliar with his work, Marques Brownlee is one of the best reviewers of new tech and automotive development on the web.

He compares the Xiaomi SU7 ($42,000) to other EVs costing $20,000 or $30,000 more (made in the US or Europe). My opinion: If you could buy this car in the US, they'd eat Tesla for lunch.

Here's the scary part. They're not even among the top 5 selling EV brands in China. Two of those five, BYD and Lia Auto had zero experience building cars until recently. Telsa still sells a ton of cars over there BTW (660,000 in 2024). BYD...3.7 million. Enough said?

Toyota is one of a few strong Asian brands that will stay competitive in the hybrid space. As for American and European car manufs? Suspect only Tesla has much of a future selling EVs.

Xiaomi's will be available in Europe next year. Will be interesting to see how it does. I bet it will crush.

The South African press is basically "fake news"

Get out of here with that lame South African whining! Cape Town does count! And don't believe anything that comes out of Turkey. All fabricated. We invented congestion. Get over it. #1 baby!
