Please give generously. Even it's a can of soup or a few quarters. There are needy vacationeers who's recreation hangs in the balance.

Steamboat Pilot & Today staff report

The Yampa Valley Regional Airport is asking for community donations to support U.S. Transportation Security Administration and other federal employees amid the government shutdown.

The employees are currently working without pay and providing essential services to the airport despite the shutdown. A similar situation occurred during the last government shutdown in October of last year.

“Our federal partners continue to show up every day to keep the traveling public safe,” said Yampa Valley Airport Director Tinneal Gerber. “This community donation effort is one way we can show appreciation and help ease the strain the shutdown has placed on these dedicated professionals.”

The drop-off location is 905 Wings Way, suite 255 in Hayden. Drop-off hours are 5:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Public drop-off is also available on the second level foyer 3Wire restaurant. Signs are posted to guide donors to drop off points.

Acceptable donations are non-perishable food items at the second level foyer. Perishable items may be dropped off at suite 255 or the TSA checkpoint. Retailer gift cards will be accepted between 5:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The maximum value is $50 per donor, and preferred amount is less than $10.

Alcohol, cash or cash equivalents are prohibited.
