Here’s America’s Stock Market Cap Fell Behind in 2025:

Stock Region

Jan 4, 2025

In 2025, the U.S. stock market ranked 8th out of the 10 largest global markets by market cap, a surprising underperformance for a country accustomed to leading the pack.

The S&P 500 gained 16%, and the Nasdaq rose 19%, but these numbers paled in comparison to the MSCI All Country World ex-USA index, which surged 29.2%. European markets, driven by a banking sector boom, and emerging markets like India and Brazil, which saw double-digit growth fueled by tech and infrastructure investments, left the U.S. trailing. Even with standout performances from growth stocks like Nvidia and Tesla, the U.S. market’s overall performance felt lackluster in a year where global markets soared.
