I consulted Claude on this. I want to make it clear that the AI Chatbot is not saying the reality TV Star and former anti vaccine spokesperson is batshit crazy. She still easy on the eyes and I do not judge. Oh wait...I just did by commenting on her appearance. Sorry...my

bad.

Her suffering sounds real, but the diagnosis and treatment she’s describing sit well outside mainstream medicine, and the tent is the clearest sign of that.

What she’s reported. She says she’s sleeping in a tent in her California backyard because she’s still afraid of another mold exposure, and although the mold in her Los Angeles home has been remediated, she says she’s “too paranoid” to move back in. A functional medicine doctor diagnosed her with mold and mycotoxin poisoning in December 2025, and she describes herself as seven months into a “mold detox.” The symptoms started with dental problems: an infected root canal and recurring jaw infections under her wisdom teeth, followed by pus-filled growths on her eye. She has also posted about plasma exchange treatments.

The medical picture. Mold does cause real, well-documented illness: allergies, asthma flares, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, and dangerous fungal infections in people with badly weakened immune systems. What has much weaker support is the functional-medicine idea of “chronic mycotoxin poisoning” from household mold, which is usually diagnosed with urine mycotoxin tests. Those tests aren’t validated for that purpose. Most people show some mycotoxins in their urine from food alone, and there’s no established level that indicates illness. “Detox protocols” and plasma exchange for this purpose don’t have good trial evidence behind them either.

Her specific symptoms also have ordinary explanations. A failed root canal and a jawbone infection are common dental problems with standard treatments. Recurring eyelid bumps are usually styes or chalazia. And “the type of mold that causes seizures” isn’t something recognized from indoor exposure.

The tent. This part concerns me most. Her house has been professionally remediated, yet she says she feels traumatized and “can detect mold, honestly, like a mold dog.” The tent also has a cover to protect her from sprinklers and what she calls “chemtrails.” That sounds less like the treatment and more like fear outrunning the evidence. Her own account (hypervigilance, feeling like everything is mold) fits health anxiety or trauma, which deserves real care in its own right. Sleeping outdoors won’t resolve it and may reinforce it.

Context. McCarthy became one of the most prominent figures in the anti-vaccine movement in the mid-2000s, so she has a long pattern of trusting alternative explanations over mainstream ones. That doesn’t make her current suffering any less real. But it’s a reason to be cautious about her story spreading as a model for others. Plenty of people in moldy houses will hear it and conclude they need expensive detox programs or need to leave their homes. yahoo

The kindest reading is that she had a miserable, frightening stretch of real infections, found a practitioner who offered a single tidy explanation, and is now stuck in a fear loop that the treatment itself keeps feeding.

Jenny McCarthy Living in a Tent After ‘Traumatic’ Mold Poisoning, Feels ‘Crazy’ and ‘Paranoid’

Jenny McCarthy shared some unexpected news about her current living situation.

During the Thursday, October 29, episode of The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show podcast, the 53-year-old revealed that she’s been living in a tent while she detoxes from mold poisoning.

“Because I am paranoid now about basically sleeping anywhere, I live in a tent,” McCarthy shared. “I’m not even joking.”

McCarthy, who is married to Donnie Wahlberg, even shared a video of the tent she set up in her backyard. The tan camping tent was covered with a waterproof tarp, which she said protects her from “chemtrails” and sprinklers.

The Masked Singer judge — who has been detoxing from mold for seven months now — admitted that she’s too fearful to live anywhere else besides her tent.

“That’s where this journey has brought me,” McCarthy added. “After all of those surgeries, after being diagnosed with Mycotoxin poisoning, I feel a little bit sometimes crazy and like the walls are caving in and paranoid.”

“It’s really, really hard, and they talk about people with mold poisoning having PTSD,” she continued. “I’m still in the traumatic part.”

In December 2025, McCarthy revealed that she had been diagnosed with toxic mold and mycotoxin poisoning. She said her symptoms included a severe, recurring infection in a root canal that caused the left side of her face to swell. She also experienced recurring chalazia, which led to months of painful eye surgeries, as well as severe skin rashes and food allergies, per Page Six.

“I couldn’t eat anything, and I started to get SIBO [Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth],” McCarthy claimed on her podcast. “That means whenever you eat, your stomach blows up.”

Since her diagnosis, McCarthy said she has spent thousands of dollars trying to eliminate mold from her entire home.
