Trump Rx to make Ozempic affordable?

Think about this for a minute. The average family health insurance plan (US) is about $2,100/month (less if your employer participates). That's a sh-tton of money. And the chief driver of health costs (70%) is chronic disease. Which is driven by sugar and weight gain.

Ergo, if Americans a resistant to good diet and exercise, spending $150.month to keep obese folks healthy begins to make economic sense.

What really makes sense is Japan's approach to good diet. Their obesity rate is 4% not ours which is pushing 42%.

Summary from WSJ

  • The Trump administration is negotiating deals with Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk to offer weight-loss drugs at reduced prices via TrumpRx.

  • The proposed agreements would include Medicare and Medicaid coverage for obesity drugs, including Wegovy and Zepbound.

  • Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy would be $149, Lilly’s Zepbound $299, and Lilly’s orforglipron $149, if approved, through TrumpRx.
