The best short video I've seen on the subject. Metrics based. Surprising info that I found fascinating. A few tidbits mentioned:

  • There are about 2 million Americans in prison. 75% of those or more are in state prisons (of which slightly under half are being held awaiting trial).

  • The overwhelming majority of prisoners are there for violent crimes and have been in prison before. Return customers.

  • And no, drug arrests don't account for a large number of this group. Only around 15%. And these folks are trafficers with massive rap sheets.

  • How did this all start. From 1960 to the 1990s the US went on a crime spree. For example the murder rate in NYC went up over 600%.

  • Chief among the contributors was the ramp in single parent families that preceeded the crime #s by about 10 years. The new dads were gang bangers.

Is Michelle Obama relatable?

When you think about Eleanor Roosevelt or Golda Meir, the moniker of public servant comes to mind. A woman who conveys purpose, humility, and an intense desire to connect with the common man or woman.
