Why population loss is devasating?

Most of the EU, China, Japan and Russia is facing a demographic crisis which can suck the life out of their economies. Essentially as fertility rates plummet there will soon by insufficient younger cohorts to work and they will be charged with taking care of an advanced elderly class that doesn't "produce". Super toxic to a nation's future.

The US is extraordinarily fortunate to have avoided that problem, thanks to immigration.
