Bessent predicts Iran's economic collapse 'in the next two weeks'
Bessent said the campaign has shut down 80% to 90% of Iran’s external flights and tightened banking restrictions on its largest carriers and lenders.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent claimed on Wednesday that 'Operation Economic Outcast' has shut down 80% to 90% of Iran's external flights through coordinated global pressure.
The Treasury engaged more than 50 countries to push what Bessent called 'Economic D-Day,' prompting the UAE to block Bank Melli transactions and Turkey to revoke Bank Mellat's license last week.
Reuters reported on Thursday that Tehran's Imam Khomeini Airport listed scheduled arrivals and departures to Afghanistan, Armenia, China, Iraq, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Turkey, but none for nearby Gulf Arab states.
Mohsen Rezaei, head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, warned regional neighbors against joining what he called 'America's adventure,' stating, 'You are our friends, but you should not join America's ranks.'
Smaller Iranian carriers continue operating international routes to China, resisting U.S. pressure, while Bessent suggested Iranian delegates at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City face travel difficulties.
