I just bought a house on the coast in Florida. I can't get hurricane insurance?

Easy. No need to panic. Private insurers are too smart to provide this because the cost would be prohibitive. So they have generally pulled the f-ck out.

The good news is that the State of Florida provides this at about 1/6th cost that a private insurer would. So if your home gets wiped out by Hurricane Sophia (I just made that part up) some unfortunate dude in Orlando gets to chip and pay a special tax assessment.

The same sheet goes on in Calif in wildfire prone areas.
