Snitz mansplains: How shows produced for your phone may crater Netflix?

Prior to 2000, most of us watched network TV or movies in theaters (mono culture). Johnny Carson ruled with up to 30 million nightly viewers. Over the subsequent 15 years, cable (HBO, Showtime) & the internet (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney) expanded the viewing options 20-fold.

Then Social media took hold! Millennials and Gen Z started spending their time on phones instead. Their attention spans got smaller.

What’s the most-watched entertainment source today? Netflix, Network TV? Nope, it’s YouTube. Short hits of dopamine, rapid-fire. And now, with the advent of AI, folks are beginning to produce mini-series to create the same dopamine hit on your phone. Netflix for young adults.

Of course, the average mid-tier drama on Netflix costs between $3-8 million to produce. A flagship series like Stranger Things $30 million +. Compare that to an AI-generated miniseries that might cost $5,000 (or less) and get 1 million views.

Sure, the Netflix stuff gets more eyeballs but is 1,000 times the cost. Consider that AI film production is in its infancy. It will get better. A lot better.
